Sooners Conclude First Day at Illini Women's and Dale McNamara Invitationals

MEDINAH, Ill. – Oklahoma women's golf is in 12th (17-over, 593) and sophomore Isabelle Schlick is tied for 25th (even, 144) after the first two rounds at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah Country Club on Monday.

The Sooners opened the tournament with an 11-over 299 and concluded the day with a 6-over 294.

"We had some good moments on the course, including our second round," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We are very close and have to be more dsiplinced with our golf management. We must continue to believe in the process."

Schlick led the lineup with an even-par 144, recording rounds of 73-71. The Bad Hamburg, Germany product tallied eight birdies in the first 36 holes, including five birdies in round two.

Schlick opened the second round with a birdie on the 16th hole and moved to 3-under through seven. After a bogey on the sixth, Schlick recorded her final birdie of the round on the seventh, finishing the front nine even-par 36.

Sophomore Savannah Barber finished the first day 3-over 147 and tallied rounds of 74-73. Barber recorded a birdie on her second hole and moved to 2-under through nine. Despite a one-stroke setback on the fifth, Barber tallied her fourth and final birdie of the round on the seventh.  

The Fort Worth, Texas product opened her second 18 with a bogey and moved to 2-over after a setback on the sixth. She recorded an eagle on the seventh, moving back to even. Barber dropped a stroke on the eighth and finished her round with five pars.

Junior Reagan Chaney enters the final round tied for 57th (6-over, 150), recording rounds of 76-74. She tallied three pars to open her round and dropped three strokes on the first three holes of the front nine. The Ardmore, Okla., product recorded her first birdie on the fourth and moved back to 3-over after a bogey on the sixth. She drained her second birdie on the seventh and finished her round with a pair of bogeys and six pars.

In the second round, Chaney tallied three birdies, marking the second-highest total by a Sooner. She opened her round with a pair of pars and dropped to 3-over through five after three-consecutive bogeys. Chaney tallied birdies on the fifth and seventh holes and finished the front nine even 36. After a one-stroke setback on the 12th, she recorded a birdie before a bogey on the 15th ended her round.

Freshmen Holly McLean and Emily Hun rounded out the OU lineup. McLean wrapped up the day with an 8-over 152 and Hun carded a 10-over 154.

McLean tallied her first eagle in the Crimson and Cream in the first round on the par-5 fourth hole. The Grand Cayman product finished her first 18 4-over 76. McLean tallied back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes and concluded her day with a 4-over 76.

Hun tallied rounds of 78-76, recording two birdies in the second round.

Sophomore Gracie Mayo competed as an individual and tied for 47th. Mayo recorded rounds of 75-73, tallying seven birdies and one eagle.
 

Broken Arrow, Okla. – Seniors Nina Lang and Kaylee Vesely concluded the first two rounds of the Dale McNamara Invitational at Golf Club of Oklahoma on Monday and are tied for 14th (even, 144) and 18th (1-over, 145), respectively.

Lang tallied two birdies in the first round and recorded a 3-over 75. The Ingolstadt, Germany product fired a 3-under 69 in the second round, moving 20 spots into a tie for 14th.

Lang recorded her first birdie of the second round on her third hole and moved to 3-under through 11. After a one-stroke setback on the ninth, Lang ended her round with a birdie on the 13th.

Vesley finished 2-over 74 through her first 18 and fired a 1-under 71 in round two. The Austin, Texas product tallied four birdies in her opening round and topped her tally with five in the second.

Vesely opened her second round with a par and dropped a pair of strokes in the next two holes before a birdie on the 17th. She tallied her second birdie of the round on the second hole and remained even through 11. Vesley recorded a bogey on the seventh and ended the front nine with back-to-back birdies, finishing 2-under 34. After a bogey on the 11th, Vesley ended her round with a birdie on the 13th.
