Sooners SEC Championship Run Ends in Quarterfinals

BELLEAIR, Fla. — Oklahoma women's golf's run at the SEC Championship came to a close Monday as the Sooners fell to sixth-seeded No. 18 Tennessee, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of match play at Pelican Golf Club.
Oklahoma, coming off its best conference championship stroke play finish in over a decade with a runner-up showing, battled throughout the match, but couldn't flip the decisive points as four of the five matches were decided by two holes or fewer.
Senior Reagan Chaney secured the Sooners' lone point with a 1-up victory over Sophie Christopher. Chaney, who finished tied for 12th in stroke play, erased multiple two-hole deficits before taking the lead on the 17th hole and closing out the win.
Freshman Satongkan (Earn) Thiengsri, competing in the first match of her collegiate career, jumped out to a 2-up advantage but fell 2&1 to Manassanan Chotikabhukk after a late Tennessee rally.
Sophomore Audrey Rischer dropped a 6&4 decision to Sofie Engesaeth, who built an early lead and maintained control throughout.
Gracie Mayo battled Kyra Van Kan in a back-and-forth match, taking a 1-up lead through six holes. Mayo later built a 2-up advantage with six to play, but Van Kan responded by winning the 13th, 15th and 17th holes to secure the point for Tennessee.
Savannah Barber, who placed eighth in stroke play, erased an early two-hole deficit to square her match on the back nine, but never took the lead. Her match was called after 16 holes after Tennessee clinched the team victory.
The Sooners now await their NCAA postseason fate, which will be announced during the selection show on April 29.
Oklahoma has qualified for 12 NCAA Regionals under head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell and advanced to the program's 10th NCAA Championship last season after a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Norman Regional.
