ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 23 Oklahoma women's golf sits tied for eighth after Monday's opening round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
The fourth-seeded Sooners carded a 12-over 296 at the par-71 University of Michigan Golf Club and enter Tuesday nine shots outside the top five with 36 holes remaining. The top five teams in the 12-team field at the conclusion of the 54-hole regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. The top individual finisher not on an advancing team will also earn a berth to nationals.
Oklahoma began the day on the back nine and made the turn at 7-over par before improving its position with a 5-over final nine. The late push moved the Sooners from 11th into a tie for eighth on the leaderboard, where OU sits alongside Kansas and Columbia at 12-over par. None of Oklahoma's five golfers are currently inside the top 20 individually.
Senior
Gracie Mayo paced the Sooners with a 1-over 72 and is tied for 22nd entering the second round.
Savannah Barber sits tied for 33rd after posting a 3-over 74, while
Audrey Rischer and
Reagan Chaney share 42nd at 4-over 75. Earn Thiengsri is tied for 58th at 8-over par.
In the team standings, reigning national champion sixth-seeded Northwestern and fifth-seeded Ohio State share the lead at 5-under par. Top-seeded No. 2 Southern California is third at 2-under, followed by No. 10 Duke at 2-over and No. 14 UCF at 3-over to round out the top five. Texas Tech (+4) and UNLV (+7) also sit ahead of the Sooners entering Tuesday's round.
USC's Elise Lee and Northwestern's Ashley Yun share the individual lead at 5-under par.
Under Drouin-Luttrell, Oklahoma has advanced through regional play in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018 and 2025.
Oklahoma tees off Tuesday morning alongside Kansas and UNLV beginning at 7:55 a.m. CT.
