SAN MARCOS, Texas – Oklahoma women's golf wrapped up its fall schedule Monday with a third-place finish at the Jim West Challenge.
Oklahoma (T3, -3) was led by
Gracie Mayo, who tied for seventh as the 19th-ranked Sooners carded team rounds of 292-284-285 at the par-72 Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
In five fall events, head coach
Veronique Drouin-Luttrell's team recorded four top-five finishes, including two third-place results and a runner-up.
"I thought our team's response in the afternoon yesterday (round two) and then today (round three) were solid," Drouin-Luttrell said. "We played well down the stretch and got a good result as a team. I'm proud of the fall that we had and I know it will serve as a launching point for the type of success we want to have next spring."
Mayo (T7, -5) secured her second straight top-10 finish, firing 72-67-72 at Kissing Tree to tie for seventh. Her second-round 67 (-5) was her lowest of the fall and featured six birdies to offset a single bogey. Over her last two events, Mayo is 12-under par and has matched her career high for top-10 finishes in a season with two.
Reagan Chaney (T14, -2) went under par after rounds of 72-73-69 to earn her fifth top-20 finish in as many events this fall. The Ardmore, Okla. product's bogey-free 69 (-3) in Monday's final round lifted her into a share of 14th.
Audrey Rischer (T25, +3) recorded her best finish of the fall, tying for 25th behind an under-par 71 and even-par 72 in Sunday's rounds. A 4-over 76 in the final round moved her out of the top 20.
Savannah Barber (T28, +4) placed 28th in her first event since winning the Dale McNamara Invitational and earning SEC Golfer of the Week honors.
Freshman Earn Thiengsri tied for 38th at 7-over, while
Raychel Nelke finished 60th competing as an individual.
No. 5 Texas A&M won the team title at 15-under par, while Houston's Natalie Saint Germain took home medalist honors at 10-under par. Following the Aggies on the leaderboard, Florida State (-14) was trailed by the Sooners who shared third with Houston (-3) while TCU (+1) closed out the top five.
The Sooners, who turned in one of their best fall seasons under Drouin-Luttrell, will train through the winter before opening spring play Feb. 2-4 at the Paradise Invitational, an event OU won last year.
