Johnson, Blackmon and Smith to Compete at Pan-American Games

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma track and field redshirt senior Richard Johnson and alumni Kennedy Blackmon and Demarius Smith are set to compete in the 2023 Pan-American Games Oct. 20-Nov. 5 in Santiago, Chile.
Johnson is representing the United States in the 400M and the 4x400 relay after qualifying for the games at the USATF Toyota Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on July 6. He secured his spot after recording a 400-meter dash time of 49.88 in the semifinals. He was named a 2023 second-team All-American in the 400M and 4x400 relay. He earned a silver medal in the 4x400 and a bronze medal in the 400M at the 2023 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Blackmon is representing the U.S. in the 100M and 4x100 relay. She recorded a 11.13 time in the 100-meter dash semifinals of the USATF Outdoor Championship to qualify for the games. An OU program record-holder in the 100M and 200M, Blackmon competed for the Sooners from 2019 to 2023. At the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, she won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash and earned first-team All-American status.
Smith qualified for the Pan-American Games in the 4x100 and mixed 4x400 relay. At the USATF Outdoor Championships, he registered a 20.73 time in the 200-meter dash semi-finals. Smith competed for the Sooners from 2020 through 2022 and was named a second-team All-American at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100M and 4x100 relay. He earned a bronze medal in the 4x400 at the 2022 Big 12 Championships.
Johnson will compete in the 400M and Blackmon will run in the 100M semifinals on Monday, Oct. 30. Smith's mixed 4x400 relay will also compete on Monday. The 400M semifinals are schedules to begin at 4:20 p.m. CST, the 100M semifinals are scheduled for 5:05 p.m. CST and the 4x400 mixed relay is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CST. Johnson's 4x400 relay and Blackmon's 4x100 relay will race on Thursday, Nov. 2.
Track and field semifinal and final competitions run from Sunday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 4. If qualified, Johnson, Blackmon and Smith will compete in final races that run from Tuesday, Oct. 31 through Saturday, Nov. 4.
