EUGENE, Ore. — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams opened competition Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field, with Kennedy Stringfellow and Colton Rhodes earning honorable mention All-America honors.
Stringfellow concluded his first season as a Sooner with an honorable mention All-America finish in the men's long jump. The junior from Brandon, Miss., recorded a mark of 7.24m (23'9.00") (+0.9) to place 21st in the national field. In his first year in Norman after transferring from Mississippi State, Stringfellow qualified for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships and spent much of the season ranked among the NCAA's top 10 long jump marks.
Rhodes wrapped up his second NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance with honorable mention All-America honors in the men's pole vault. The Houston native cleared 5.35m (17'6.50") to finish tied for 22nd overall.
The Oklahoma women's team begins action Thursday beginning at 2:30 p.m. PT with Kennedy Clarke in the women's hammer throw. Freshman school-record holder Domtila Cheruto is scheduled to compete in the women's 10,000 meters at approximately 7:56 p.m. PT.
