Sooners Wrap Up ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team concluded the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday evening in Cary, N.C.
Junior Ava Catanzarite earned a trio of wins across the first two days, defeating Ellie Schoppe of FSU (7-5, 6-4) Elizabeth Coleman of Duke (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) and UCLA's Ahmani Guichard (5-7, 6-4, 7-5) to advance to the qualifying round of the tournament.
Sophomore Julia Garcia-Ruiz notched two wins in singles, defeating Alice Amendona of Memphis, 6-1, 6-1, and Claudia De Las Heras (San Diego), 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
Garcia-Ruiz & freshman Zdena Safarova advanced through the first round of pre-qualifying doubles via walkover due to injury. Safarova and Garcia-Ruiz then won 8-7 (6) over Schoppe/Victoria Allen (Florida State) and 8-5 over Fernanda Carvajal/Daniela Rivera (East Tennessee State) to advance to the qualifying doubles round.
Junior Alina Shcherbinina and seniors Dana Guzman and Florencia Urrutia will begin play in the qualifying round on Monday. Scherbininina will compete against Eryn Cayetano (USC) and Urrutia will face off with Anna Arkadianou (FSU). Guzman & Catanzarite's opponents, along with match times, will be released at a later time.
