NORMAN - The Oklahoma women's tennis team claimed six spots in the ITA Preseason Rankings, the association announced Tuesday.
Highlighting the singles poll, senior
Layne SleethĀ earned a career-high ranking at No. 4.Ā The Ontario native made herself a household name afterĀ joining the Sooners forĀ the 2021-22 season. Sleeth concluded her junior campaign with a 28-9 singles record, primarily playing at the top court. She was also a first team All-American, earned four top-15 ranked wins, was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships.
Following behind, seniorĀ
Carmen CorleyĀ came in at No. 22. She ended her junior year with an overall singles record at 20-12, eight wins over ranked opponents, including aĀ victory over the No. 4 player in the nation, and advanced to the Round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championships. Corley also rose as high as No. 33 and clinched three matches for the Sooners.
Graduate student
Ivana CorleyĀ also earned a spot to round out the singles rankings at No. 93. The Albuquerque native earned the ITA National Indoors Most Outstanding Player honor, compiled a 22-15 overall singles record, ranked as high as No. 38 and beat the No. 7 player in the nation.Ā
In the doubles poll, two Sooner duos earned a spot in the top 30. The Corley Sisters debuted the 2022-23 season at No. 2 after compiling a 27-7 record at the top court. The pair collected multiple honors along the season, including being named First Team All-Americans, All-Big 12 Doubles First Team, NCAA All-Tournament No. 1 Doubles, ITA National Indoors All-Tournament No. 1 Doubles and qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships. The sisters collected 10 wins over ranked opponents, highlighted by victories over the No. 1, 5, 6 and 7 pairs in the nation.Ā
Sleeth and graduate student
Alexandra PisarevaĀ checked in at No. 28 after collecting a 16-8 doubles record during 2022 season. The duo rose as high as No. 25, had four wins against ranked opponents, including victories over No. 20 and No. 21, and clinched six doubles points for the Sooners.Ā
Closing out the rankings,
Daria KudashovaĀ earned the No. 3 spot in the newcomer rankings. Kudashova joins the Sooners with a career-high WTA singles ranking at No. 645 and ITF Pro Circuit ranking at No. 27. The Russian claimed four singles titles and made the quarterfinals or better in 11 tournaments.Ā
