August 15, 2022 | Men's Tennis

NORMAN – Oklahoma head tennis coach Nick Crowell announced the addition of transfer Siphos Montsi from the University of Illinois on Monday.

"We are extremely excited to have Siphos join our program this season," said Crowell. "Siphos brings a wealth of experience with playing in the top of the lineup on a Big 10 championship team, being an All-American and making the NCAA tournament. He loves to compete and is eager to start his career at Oklahoma."

From East London, South Africa, Montsi collected a 53-25 singles record in his four seasons at Illinois. Montsi was recognized as a 2021 ITA All-American, a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten First Team and a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week. He reached a career-high singles ranking at No. 42, playing primarily on court one, and a doubles-high at No. 46, competing mainly at the No. 2 spot.

Prior to his collegiate career, Montsi rose as high as No. 92 in the ITF junior world ranking and No. 1192 in the ATP rankings. Additionally, he claimed three ITF junior singles and doubles titles and was a member of the South African Davis Cup team.

"I'm excited to join the Sooner family and to be on the court representing OU," said Montsi. "I'm looking forward to winning a lot of matches with the team and try my best to help bring hardware to the program. I love winning."

Montsi is the second addition for the 2022-23 season. The Sooners are set to return to the court this fall, and their schedule will be released at a later date.
