Miyazaki Earns Wimbledon Wildcard

June 24, 2022 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – OU alum Lily Miyazaki has been granted a wildcard entry into the 2022 Wimbledon main draw.

Miyazaki, born in Tokyo, Japan, switched to British nationality earlier this year to play for Great Britain. She will make her main draw debut at Wimbledon, marking her third major appearance in the last year after qualifying for the Australian Open and French Open.

Adding on to her resume, the OU alum broke into the top 200 of the WTA Singles rankings with a career-high at No. 199 and claimed her first $60k title at the W60 Grenoble in early 2022.

In the Oklahoma record books, Miyazaki's name can be found in almost every category. She is currently sixth in singles wins in a season, eighth in matches played in a season, ninth in single season-win percentage, third in career wins and has the fourth best career-win percentage. Additionally, she was the 2015 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, two-time Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, a three-time All-Big 12 selection, Regional Rookie of the Year, received the NCAA Elite 90 Award and appeared at the NCAA Singles Championships twice.

Main draw action begins on Monday, June 27, where Miyazaki will face France's Caroline Garcia in singles. She will then pair up with Sarah Beth Grey on Wednesday, June 29, to compete against No. 5-seed Asia Muhammad and Ena Shibahara in doubles play. Live scoring will be available here.
