NCAA West Prelims Results

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Oklahoma's men's and women's track and field teams qualified eight student-athletes in nine individual events and two relay teams to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final two days of the NCAA West Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday and Saturday.

The Sooners closed the weekend qualifying 17 athletes and two relay teams, bringing the entry total to 20. Additionally, the Sooners' 20 entries tie the most since 2010.

Starting off the men's last day on Friday, freshman Kason O'Riley and redshirt junior Vernon Turner punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in men's high jump. O'Riley cleared 7-0.50 (2.15m) to qualify for his first nationals, while Turner jumped 7-1.75 (2.18m) to punched his third-career ticket to Eugene.

On the track, the 4x100-meter relay squad of Karson Kowalchuk, Josh Bour, Demarius Smith and Alajuwan Robinson clocked a 39.54 and finished second in their heat to automatically qualify.

Junior Richard Kuykendoll sent himself to Oregon by clocking a 45.39 in the 400-meter dash.

Isaiah Levingston, the 2021 400-meter hurdle national runner-up, secured a lane with a time of 49.22 and will make his second NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance.

Punching tickets in two individual events, redshirt senior Demarius Smith claimed his spot in the 100-meter dash with a time 10.17 and the 200-meter dash, clocking a 20.52.

On the women's side, redshirt senior Lauren Jones secured her second ticket to Eugene in discus with a third-attempt throw at 187-3 (57.07m).

The women's 4x100-meter relay squad of Mikayla Hayes, Ja'Leesa Giles, Camri Austin and Jada Atkinson qualified with a time of 44.19 to claim a lane.

Redshirt senior Camri Austin clocked a season-best time at 12.85 in the 100-meter hurdles, punching her second ticket to the outdoor championship.

Closing out the meet and securing the Sooners' last seat to Eugene, junior Mikeisha Welcome leaped a season-best mark at 45-7.00 (13.89mw) in women's triple jump.

The Sooners will travel to the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.
