NORMAN – Five players of the Oklahoma women's tennis team have earned Academic All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced Wednesday.
Carmen Corley,
Ivana Corley,
Dana Guzman,
Alexandra Pisareva and
Marcelina Podlinska all earned the first team honor.
This is the first academic honor for
Alexandra Pisareva and
Dana Guzman, the second for
Carmen Corley and
Marcelina Podlinska and
Ivana Corley's third.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners open the postseason with the Big 12 tournament at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Oklahoma will receive a first-round bye and play the winner between TCU and Kansas State on Friday at noon CT. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the entrance gate.
