NORMAN — Six members of the Oklahoma men's tennis team have earned Academic All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced Wednesday.
Mason Beiler, Nathan Han, Welsh Hotard, Mark Mandlik and Matt Rodriguez captured first- team honors with Justin Schlageter earning second team.
Beiler and Han were the only men's tennis student-athletes in the Big 12 to register a 4.0 grade point average.
This is the first academic honor for Han and Hotard, second for Mandlik, Rodriguez and Schlageter and third for Beiler. The Sooners matched their program-high six honors.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners open the 2022 Big 12 Men's Tennis Championship against Texas Tech in Fort Worth, Friday at 3 p.m. CT. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the entrance gate of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Additional information for the tournament can be found here.
