Martinez Earns Second Big 12 Player of the Week Honor

NORMAN — Junior Alex Martinez has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Martinez tallied a singles and doubles win in OU's match at No. 28 Arizona. Martinez and doubles partner Welsh Hotard notched a 6-3 win on court one over Arizona's Filip Malbasic and Jonas Ziverts. In singles play, the Sooner tallied the first singles win on the day with a victory over No. 120 Gustaf Strom 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Martinez's victory over No. 120 Strom was his fourth ranked singles win on the season.

Martinez's award is his second weekly honor on the season and third for the Sooners.

OU is back in action Sunday, March 13, at 1 p.m. CT as the Sooners travel north to take on Tulsa.
