NORMAN – Oklahoma senior Alexandra (Sasha) Pisareva has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Sooners currently have an undefeated 8-0 overall record since starting their season mid-January, putting them No. 8 in the nation.
The team came off their first ever top-10 win against No. 6 Duke in the ITA Kickoff Weekend to send them to the ITA National Indoors for the first time in program history. The Sooners then returned home to host a doubleheader against the New Mexico State Aggies.
Pisareva closed out the day undefeated, 4-0, tallying the most wins by only dropping six out of the 42 games played. In the first match, she paired up with her usual doubles partner
Layne Sleeth to take down NMSU's Chloe Gavino and Natsuki Nishimura 6-1 on court two to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Pisareva took court four after defeating Georgia Townsend 6-1, 6-1 to give OU its fifth point of the match, ultimately giving the Aggies a 7-0 sweep.
For the second time around, Pisareva switched up doubles partners to play with
Marcelina Podlinska on court two, tallying her third win of the day after taking the victory over Nishimura and Gavi Kalaga, 6-1, to once again clinch the opening point for OU.
Closing out the day, she was back at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match against Kalaga, 6-1, 6-1, giving the Sooners their second win of the day, 5-0.
This is Pisareva's first career Big 12 Player of the Week honor since arriving in Jan. 2021. The accolade is OU's second of the 2022 season.
Pisareva and the Sooners will head to Madison, Wisc. for the ITA National Indoors on Feb. 11 to the 14, making their first appearance in the tournament.
