Two Big 12 Titles, Two School Records Highlight Day One

AMES, IowaĀ - The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams closed out day one of the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Ames, Iowa, on Friday night.

The Sooners advanced six athletes to 7 final events that will take place tomorrow. The men's and women's squads conclude the first day each in second place.

Action will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT, beginning with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Live results can be found on PT Timing. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+Ā beginning at 11:15 a.m.Ā

Day one is highlighted by two broken school records and two Big 12 titles. Freshman Olivia Lueking cleared another school record, a meet record and a facility record, giving her the title with a height at 14-6 (4.42m). Redshirt senior Isaiah Levingston finished on top in the men's 600-yards to advance to the finals tomorrow, clocking a PR and OU school record time of 1:08.18.

Redshirt senior Rayvon Allen leaped to his first Big 12 Indoor Champion title in long jump, tying his personal best at 25-10 (7.87m).

Madison Langley-Walker, Pippi Lotta Enok and Ariel PedigoĀ got action started for the Sooners. The three competed in the pentathlon. Langley-Walker closed out her event with a PR of 3,938 points, claiming fourth and setting personal records in shot put, long jump and the 800-meter. Enok took fifth, totaling a PR of 3,924 points, while Pedigo finished eighth with 3,754 points.

In the heptathlon, Kristo Simulask will head into day two with 3,198 points and in second place, while Joey Zayszly will go in with 2,739 points and in 12th place. Simulask finished third in all four events competed.

On the track, redshirt seniorĀ Jasher FosterĀ clocked a 7.85 in the men's 60-meter hurdles, claiming fourth and advancing to tomorrow's final.

In the prelims of the men's 60-meter dash, senior Demarius SmithĀ took eighth with a time of 6.74. Smith's performance secured him a spot in final competition tomorrow.

Junior Richard Kuykendoll advanced to the men's 400-meter dash, recording a PR at 46.66 and securing fifth.

In the 1,000-meter run, Jordyn Kaplan clocked a PR at 2:52.67 to advance for the women, while Anass Mghari qualified for the men's finals with a time of 2:24.50.

Closing out the field, redshirt senior Lauren Jones took bronze in the women's weight throw, marking a 65-7.50 (20.00m). On the men's side, senior Bayley Campbell grabbed silver, throwing a PR at 67-9 (20.65), while redshirt senior Edward Jeans took fourth, marking a 65-9.50 (20.05m) to move him to No. 3 in OU indoor history.

The Sooners with qualifying marks will travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12. The rest of the squad will prepare for outdoor action that is set to take place on March 18-19 at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas.
