NORMAN ā The Sooners ended their trip to Pennsylvania with multiple first- and second-place finishes at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on Sunday afternoon.
In front of his hometown crowd, Bethlehem, Pa., product Darrien Roberts dominated the 174-pound division with a 3-1 finish, including a 4-3 upset over No. 8 PhilĀ Coniglario (Harvard) and a comeback pin over NC State's Singleton. Roberts' showing landed him the 174-pound pool championship.
"Darrien had a good performance today," head coach Lou Rosselli said. "He wrestled well. He will be a factor if he keeps improving."
Jared Hill claimed the 157B first place title with a 10-4 sudden-victory win over McDaniel (Army) and a pair ofĀ 3-2 decisions. Down 2-0 with one minute left in his first bout, Hill clawed back and won with a riding time point. Tied 2-2 with seconds left in his second match, Hill responded with another riding time point to secure his second decision win of the day.
Greyden Penner landed a spot in the 184C final after recording two major decision wins, his first being a 13-4 win over No. 1 seed Karpinski (West Point) and his next being a 10-2 win over No. 2 seed Doggett (Harvard). Penner edged Abdul-Razzaq (West Point) 3-2 to clinch the 184C championship.
The Sooners garnered fourĀ runner-up finishes in the round robin tournament.
Josh HeindselmanĀ strutted through pool B of the 285A division with a 4-0 shutout win over No. 21Ā Knighton-WardĀ (Hofstra), a 4-2 decision over No. 22Ā GoldinĀ (Penn), and a 4-2 victory over Houghton (NC State). In the 285A championship,Ā HeindselmanĀ fell short to No. 5Ā SlavikouskiĀ (Harvard).
In his lone matchup of the day, Alejandro Herrera-Rondon took control early with a takedown and shut out Nebraska's Taylor 5-0.Ā Gabe Vidlak earned second place in pool A of the 133C division after an 11-3 major decision in his first matchup against Hofstra's Turley.
Jacob Butler received second place after defeating Harvard's Berg, 4-1, in his first bout and notching his second decision win with a 9-5 victory over Army's Lukez. He fell short to Penn's Artalona, 6-4, in the 157A final.
After dropping his first two matches and trailing 5-3 going into the third period of his final match, Wyatt Henson responded by winning 10-8 in sudden victory over Bayless (Harvard) to finish in fifth place in the 133A pool.
After two losses in pool B, Seth Seago responded with a 2-0 win over Lopresti (Long Island), bidding him the fifth place finish.
Winning his first bout by a 7-2 decision over Harvard's Ferraro, Tate Picklo received a bye and medical forfeited his other two matches in pool B of 184B.
"TheĀ team had another solid day," Rosselli said."Butler,Ā HeindselmanĀ and PennerĀ had good days. We will continue to make progress each week."
Oklahoma will return to Norman with its home opener against Little Rock at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 in McCasland Field House.
