OU alum Lily Miyazaki is headed to the 2022 Australian Open to compete in her first Grand Slam. The tournament is set to start Jan. 10.
Miyazaki, the Tokyo native, will be the second Sooner to qualify for the tournament. The AO marks her first major appearance of her career, coming in with four titles, including two in 2021.
"All of us at OU are so proud of this opportunity Lily has earned," said head coach
Audra Cohen. "She is one of the most determined players I've had the pleasure of working with. She will continue making more appearances and make our program proud."
With a career-high WTA singles ranking of 214 and ITF ranking of 110, Miyazaki is making her Grand Slam debut after competing in 25 tournaments in 2021.
"I am looking forward to competing in my first Grand Slam," said Miyazaki. "Playing college tennis at OU helped me get to this stage as it allowed me to develop my tennis and become more mentally resilient."
At Oklahoma, she completed her career with an overall singles record of 96-35, tying for third-most wins in program history.
