September 16, 2021 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head women's tennis coach Audra Cohen announced the Sooners' 2021 fall slate on Thursday afternoon.

Oklahoma is scheduled to compete in 15 events this fall, with different student-athletes competing in varying tournaments around the country.

"After dealing with many unknowns last year, we are incredibly grateful for the numerous competitive opportunities that we have on the schedule this fall," Cohen said. "We strategized a more individualized schedule where each student-athletes' pathway is designed to achieve her personal goals."

A set of Sooners will open the fall season at the Milwaukee Classic in Milwaukee, Wis., Sept. 18.

The following week, a group of Sooners will travel to North Carolina for the Fall Ranked Invite, beginning Sept. 24, while other individuals will head to Lubbock, Texas for the ITF Lubbock 15k, Sept. 25 – Oct. 3.

October will be packed with Sooners representing OU at a total of 10 events. Beginning Oct. 2, a group will travel to Hilton Head, S.C., for the ITF Hilton Head 15k, while another set of Sooners will be on the opposite coast in Redding, Calif., for the ITF Redding 25k.

Ivana and Carmen Corley and Dana Guzman will travel to Charleston, S.C., for the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 4-10.

The Sooners will split, Oct. 9-17, with some student-athletes competing at the ITF Norman 15k at the Headington Family Tennis Center, while another set will be in Florence, S.C., for the ITF Florence 25k.

The team will then head to the ITA Central Regional Championships, taking place in Iowa City, Oct. 21-26.

The squad will split again Oct. 23-31 with a group competing at the ITF Austin 25k in Austin, Texas, and another couple of players in Macon, Ga., for the ITF Macon 80k.

A number of Sooners will travel to Houston, Texas, for the ITA Rice Invite, Oct. 29-31.

The fall slate will end the beginning of November with three tournaments. ITF Orlando 25k begins Oct. 30. The Sooners will split for a final time Nov. 4-7. A group will travel to the ITA Fall Nationals in San Diego, Calif., while other student-athletes will compete at the Big 12 Invite in Stillwater, Okla., beginning Nov. 5.

"While we may not all be competing in the same event each week, we recognize that we always represent our team," said Cohen.

Cohen's team returns sophomore Dana Guzman; junior Carmen Corley; seniors Ivana Corley, Alexandra Pisareva and Marcelina Podlinska from the 2020-21 season. In addition, Layne Sleeth, a junior who transferred to OU from Florida and freshman Emma Staker are set to join the squad for the fall competition.
