T&F Collects Big 12 Academic Honors

NORMAN — Oklahoma's men's and women's track and field teams placed 47 Sooners on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team. The conference announced Tuesday the 435 student-athletes receiving the academic honors.

Of the 47 Sooners, 18 men and 25 women were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while four men were named to the second team.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria are expect percent of participation are also eligible.

Of the 435 student-athletes recognized by the conference, 262 were women (235 first team and 27 second team) and 173 men (140 first team and 33 second team).

To make the first team, the student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher, either cumulatively or for the previous two semesters. Second-team honorees carry a 3.00-3.19 GPA.

Ten Sooners earned special recognition for earning a 4.00 GPA: Rayvon Allen, Jordan Gledhill, Camri Austin, Abby Bilsbury, Colleen Clancy, Faith Ette, Lauren Jones, Sydney King, Madeline Medina and Dai'Lyn Merriweather.
