Sooners Named ITA UTR April Team of the Month

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team has been named the UTR ITA Team of the Month for April after running through the final month of the regular season at 5-0 and picking up four ranked wins in that stretch.
The Sooners kicked off the month with a 4-0 sweep of then-No. 41 Oklahoma State to earn the program's first Bedlam victory since 2014. In the following match on April 4, OU topped No. 16 UCF 4-1, good for the program's highest-ranked win in history.
Oklahoma swept No. 31 Iowa State 4-0 in the final home match of the season, then grabbed a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 49 Kansas (April 16) and Kansas State (April 18) to close out the regular season.
Additionally, the Sooners swept No. 35 Oklahoma State 4-0 in the Big 12 Tennis Championships quarterfinals on April 23.
On April 7, OU was tabbed No. 25 in the ITA rankings to mark the team's highest ranking and first top-25 appearance since 2014. The Sooners have moved up a spot in each of the subsequent polls and are currently No. 23 in the most recent (April 21) release.
The UTR ITA Team of the Month award is in its first year of inception. The UTR ITA Team of the Month awards program honors men's and women's teams from all five divisions (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College) with monthly awards during the spring dual-match season.
The Sooners (15-6) await their NCAA tournament destination. Selections will be made on Monday, May 3.
