Sooners Prepped For Big 12 Tournament

WACO, Texas – The No. 26 Oklahoma men's tennis team is set for the 2021 Big 12 Men's Tennis Championships beginning Saturday. The Sooners will meet No. 3 seed TCU in the first round at 3 p.m. CT.

Saturday will mark the third meeting between OU and the Horned Frogs this season. TCU won the first two contests, which were both played in Fort Worth.
Should OU advance, they will face No. 2 seed Baylor in Sunday's 4 p.m. semifinal.

Regular Season Recap

The Sooners completed the regular season at 10-13 overall and 1-4 against the Big 12. The Sooners tied for fourth in the league with Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.
OU secured three wins over ranked opponents: a 4-0 victory over No. 12 Wake Forest on Jan. 23; a 4-1 rout of No. 15 Arizona on March 21; and a 6-1 win over No. 21 Texas Tech in the Big 12 opener on April 1.
OU has been ranked as high as No. 19 nationally this season.

OU at the Big 12 Tournament

Oklahoma has won a total of 32 Big 12 titles with the first coming in 1929. OU's most recent Big 12 titles came in 2015.
OU won four straight Big 12 championships from 2012 to 2015. Assistant coach Nick Papac was a member of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 championship teams.

OU checked in at No. 26 in the April 21 ITA team rankings.
Mason Beiler moved up three spots to No. 70 and Jake Van Emburgh jumped five spots to No. 102.
In doubles, Nathan Han and Alex Martinez checked in at No. 53 nationally.

Martinez Runs the Table

Sophomore Alex Martinez went 5-0 in Big 12 play at the No. 3 spot this season. He becomes the first OU player to win all five of his league matches since Andrew Harris in 2015.
Martinez is one of just two Big 12 players to go 5-0, joining Spencer Furman of Baylor, who went undefeated on court six.
Martinez completed the regular season with a team-best 12-7 overall record in singles and won his last six matches consecutively. He also led the team in doubles victories at 12-8 overall , going 10-7 with Nathan Han at the top spot.
