Bedlam Sweep Opens Weekend for Women's Tennis

NORMAN – The No. 33 Oklahoma women's tennis team got its first Bedlam win since 2014 Friday night and did it in statement fashion, shutting out the No. 41 Cowgirls 4-0 in Norman.

"I'm just so proud of how well our team responded, not only to our last match against OSU but also to our previous 4-3 matches," said OU head coach Audra Cohen. "They've really been so focused on becoming unbelievable competitors and improving their competitiveness and I'm really proud of that."

OU (10-5) won the doubles point handily, giving up just two games across two courts to take then opening, point, then used singles wins from Martina Capurro, Dana Guzman and Ivana Corley to put away OSU.

In doubles, ITA No. 11 Carmen and Ivana Corley improved to 4-0 against ranked opponents as they ran past No. 55 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Ayumi Miyamoto 6-1.

For the third straight match, Kianah Motosono and Guzman clinched the doubles point on court three. The Peruvian duo rolled past Daniella Medvedeva and Dariya Detkovskya 6-1.

When play was abandoned, Capurro and Camila Romero led Alana Wolfberg and Lenka Stara 4-3 at the No. 2 line.

Capurro ran through court four, downing Detkovskaya 6-1, 6-2 to push OU's lead to 2-0. No. 80 Guzman continued her winning ways, defeating Miyamoto 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 8-1 at the No. 2 line.

Ivana Corley sealed the deal for the Sooners with a win over No. 53 Wolfberg. Corley took the opening set 6-4, jumping out to a 3-0 lead and weathering the storm as Wolfberg fought back mid set. Corley faced match points in the second set as she trailed 5-4 before winning the next three games in crunch time to clinch the match for OU.

The last three matches were halted. At the top spot, No. 97 Carmen Corley was locked in at 4-all in the second set with No. 16 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat. Motosono was tied with Lenka Stara at 1-1 in the third set on court five. Motosono gave up the opening frame 6-2, but bounced back to take the second 6-4 and force a third.

At the No. 6 line, No. 109 Marcelina Podlinska trailed Medvedeva 3-2 in the second set. Medvedeva won the first after a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4).
