NORMAN – Freshman outside hitter
Megan Wilson was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Wilson, who was honored as the Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 11, is the first player in program history to earn two weekly honors in the same week. She is the only Big 12 player this season to be honored in more than one category in the same week.
The Kingwood, Texas, native had a strong weekend for the Sooners and tallied the most kills by a Big 12 athlete on the weekend with 38. On Friday, she posted a career-high 22 kills at a 4.40 kills/set mark. The freshman also got in on three blocks, including two solo. On Saturday, Wilson notched 16 kills on a 4.00 k/s clip and added two digs and two blocks. Her 4.22 kills/set mark on the weekend ranked second in the league.
Wilson's three weekly awards are second most by a Sooner this season. The Sooners have picked up nine weekly awards in 2021 to lead the league and an OU freshman has won rookie of the week in five of the last six weeks. The Sooners are also the only school to have at least one athlete honored in all three categories this season.
Kansas' Caroline Crawford was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Wilson and the Sooners are back in action Friday and Saturday when they host Iowa State.
