NORMAN – Emoni Bush reached 1,000 career kills on her senior night as the Oklahoma volleyball team swept Alabama, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22, Friday night inside McCasland Field House.
Bush needed no time at all to reach her milestone as the graduate student rattled off four straight kills to start the match. On her sixth swing of the game, Bush reached the elusive mark and ended her night with 13 for a career total of 1,008.
This was the second straight sweep for the Sooners (15-8, 7-6 SEC) over the Crimson Tide (11-12, 3-10), as OU also won 3-0 in 2024.
Alexis Shelton had a phenomenal performance in her final game inside the Field House, hitting .577 on 17 kills, to go with 7 digs, 3 aces and two blocks.
Alyssa Flack and Kamille Gibson each recorded seven kills for the Sooners, while Kelli Jo Burgess chipped in five. Avaya Maga tallied 24 assists and Harper Hall added 22, while Dionii Fraga notched nine digs.
OU hit .486 behind eight kills from Bush in the opening frame. With Avaya Maga behind the service line, the Sooners took a 4-0 lead as Bush notched four straight kills. The Sooners led 15-11 at the media timeout before Alabama cut the lead to two. OU used a 6-0 run to make it 21-13 and closed out the set 25-17.
The Sooners trailed 14-11 at the first break of the second set before using a 6-3 run to pull even with the Tide at 17-17. Back-to-back-to-back aces from Shelton gave the Sooners a 21-18 advantage. A service error by the Tide put OU in front 24-21 and a kill from Flack sealed the 25-22 win.
Similar to the second set, the Sooners found themselves down 14-11 in the third. OU made it a one-point game at 16-15 and took the 18-17 lead on a 3-0 run. The Tide went back ahead at 22-20 but Shelton got hot at the right moment with three kills to put OU in front 24-22 and set up match point. Gibson shut the door with her seventh kill of the night for the 25-22 win.
The Sooners will wrap up the regular season on the road next weekend at Kentucky on Nov. 14 and Tennessee on Nov. 16.
