NORMAN – Oklahoma volleyball's
Alexis Shelton and
Kelli Jo Burgess earned AVCA Central All-Region honors, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
Shelton was named to the first team for the second year in a row, while Burgess earned honorable mention honors for the second time in her career. This is the second year in a row that the Sooners placed at least two athletes on all-region teams and the first time since the 2018 and 2019 seasons that multiple athletes have earned recognition in the same year.
Shelton picked up her second career all-region honor as she finished her season with 24 double-digit kill matches and eight 20-kill performances. The Charlotte, N.C., native led Oklahoma with 439 kills on the season and eclipsed the 1,500 kill mark to finish sixth all-time in program history. Shelton left her mark all over the stat sheet in 2025, tallying 12 service aces, 163 digs and 78 blocks.
Burgess had a breakout year for the Sooners in 2025 as she earned her first all-region honor since being named the 2022 Pacific South Region Freshman of the Year while at Utah. Dominant on both sides of the ball, the redshirt junior finished the season with a .411 hitting percentage and 195 kills. On the defensive side of the net, the Lehi, Utah, native tallied 136 blocks on the year with 18 solo blocks. She recorded a career high with 11.0 blocks against Kentucky during the regular season.
Overall, the Sooners finished the 2025 season with a 16-11 record and an eighth-place finish in the SEC. Both Shelton and Burgess were named to All-SEC teams after leading the Sooners to the programs first SEC tournament victory.
