Joe Castiglione announced the 2021 OU tennis schedule Wednesday.
The competitive spring slate includes eight opponents who ranked in the ITA's top 16 last season and 13 matches with top-30 teams. The Sooners will host 14 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
"We are very excited to kick off the season here net week," said Crowell, who enters his fifth year as head coach for the Sooners. "Our guys have prepared very hard for the season and opportunity and we are hungry to get started."
OU will open the season at home on Jan. 13 with Incarnate Word. The Sooners then head to Tennessee for a meeting with the Volunteers on Jan. 16.
OU is set for ITA Kickoff Weekend at TCU Jan. 23-24. The Sooners will open with Wake Forest while TCU and Denver square off on the other side of the bracket. The winners of those matches will face each other on Jan. 24 for a spot at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championships, which will be held in Chicago from Feb. 12-14.
The Sooners return to the Headington Family Tennis Center for a trio of matches, hosting Wichita State on Jan. 29 and SMU and Abilene Christian in a doubleheader on Jan. 31.
OU travels to Waco, Texas, to meet Baylor in a non-conference clash on Feb.6, then comes home to host seven straight contests across February and March.
During February, OU will face Arkansas (Feb. 10), Tulsa (Feb. 19) and Louisiana (Feb. 25). In March, the Sooners will host Arizona State (March 5), Texas in a non-conference clash (March 7), UTSA (March 10) and Oklahoma State in another non-conference meeting (March 12).
Oklahoma will face Texas Tech in a non-conference matchup in Dallas on March 14. OU closes out the home slate with Arizona (March 21), UCF (March 27), then conference contests with Texas Tech (April 1) and Baylor (April 3).
The squad finishes out the year on the road with conference matches at Texas on April 11, TCU on April 13 and Oklahoma State on April 18.
The Big 12 Championships are set for April 23-25 in Waco, Texas.
OU returns the entire 2019-20 squad and has added three players in graduate transfer
Jonathan Sheehy, as well as freshmen
Nathan Han and
Welsh Hotard. The trio of newcomers all made their debuts for OU during fall tournament play.
Match times for the 2021 season will be announced at a later date.
OU officials are continuing to work closely with top medical experts to ensure they are making decisions that are in the best interest of student-athletes, stakeholders and the university.
