Sooners Wrap Up The Reveille

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams continued the 2019 outdoor campaign Saturday at The Reveille on the campus of Texas A&M. The meet was the inaugural competition at Texas A&M's E.B. Cushing Stadium, and the Sooners were the first to claim an event victory at the new facility. 

Action began with the women's hammer throw, where sophomore Lauren Jones earned the first-place finish with her throw of 181-3 (55.24m). Redshirt junior Camille Burge took sixth with a toss of 153-7 (48.81m). 

Freshman Bayley Campbell secured an OU sweep of the hammer throws with his throw of 214-3 (65.31m) for the win in the men's competition. Sophomore Edward Jeans wasn't far behind, taking second place with a mark of 201-11 (61.55m). 

In the women's long jump, the Sooners collected two top-10 finishes, led by freshman Symone Washington. Washington jumped 19-5.5 (5.93m) (1.9), while sophomore Nura Muhammad finished ninth with a leap of 19-4.25 (5.90m) (2.8).

Mid-way through the women's pole vault, competition was suspended with lightning and severe thunderstorms in the College Station area. Action resumed nearly three hours later, and senior Meagan Gray returned to the pit to clear 13-7.75 (4.16m) for second place. Freshman Gabby Carson collected a personal-best mark of 12-4 (3.76m) to finish seventh. 

The Sooners picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the shot puts, with freshman Faith Ette and sophomore Lauren Jones going 2-3 in the women's competition. Ette threw it 48-8.25 (15.14m), while Jones tossed it 46-9.5 (14.26m). Sophomore Cooper Campbell recorded a mark of 60-4.75 (18.41m) for second, and junior Brad Daboub tossed it 58-0.5 (17.69m) for fourth. In the discus throws, Ette recorded a 146-1 (44.54m) for seventh, and Daboub earned sixth with a throw of 163-7 (49.86m). 

Redshirt senior Makayla Stephens cleared 5-7.75 (1.72m) to finish third in the women's high jump. Freshman Madison Langley-Walker took seventh, clearing 5-3.75 (1.62m). 

In the men's triple jump, senior Marcus Mitchell took home third place with a mark of 48-7.25 (14.81m) (0.8). Senior Najuana Strickland claimed seventh in the women's triple jump at 40-1.5 (12.23m) (0.9), while freshman Allanah Lee leapt 38-2.25 (11.64m) (0.7) to claim 10th

On the track, the Sooners saw ninth-place finishes from junior Amanda Van Buren (11.77, 0.6) in the women's 100-meter dash and freshman Quoi Ellis (10.75, 2.3) in the men's 100-meter dash. Sophomore Camri Austin (12.21, 0.6) took tenth in the women's race. Freshman Jordyn Kaplan claimed her own ninth-place spot in the women's 800-meter run, finishing in 2:18.57. Redshirt sophomore Morgan Long took 12thin 2:23.88. Sophomore Derek King (2:00.64) and redshirt freshman Sorre Bah (2:05.12) finished 11thand 12th, respectively, in the men's 800. 

Austin took fourth place in the women's 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 13.19 (0.5), and freshman Isaiah Levingston took eighth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.32. Senior Andrew Doherty ran the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:29.39 for fourth place. 

In the final event of the meet, the Sooners' all-freshman men's 4x400-meter relay team of Levingston, Brooks Glanton, Caleb Johnson and Myles Wheeler took ninth place with a time of 3:20.53.

Up next, OU heads west to Los Angeles for the Rafer Johson/Jackie Joyner Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 13. Following the trip to California, the Sooners return home to host the annual John Jacobs Invitational on the OU campus Apr. 19 and 20.
