NORMAN - Two Sooners claimed second team All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala. Freshman Kristo Simulask and sophomore Falyn Reaugh were OU's two representatives at the championship meet.
Simulask competed in the men's heptathlon after a strong freshman season in the event. Over the span of two days, Simulask collected 5,509 points to finish in 13th place and secure the second-team honors. He opened competition on Friday in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.14. In the heptathlon long jump, he picked up a mark of 22-4.25 (6.81m), and he tossed it 41-1 (12.52m) in the shot put. In the final event on Friday, Simulask owned the fifth-best mark in the high jump, clearing 6-8 (2.03m). On the first day of competition, he collected a total of 3,071 points.
The heptathlon resumed on Saturday, with Simulask tying his personal-record time of 8.43 in the 60-meter hurdles. In the pole vault, he cleared 14-11.5 (4.56m) to earn 778 points. Simulask wrapped up the heptathlon with a time of 2:48.31 in the 1,000-meter run to gain 783 points, completing his final total of 5,509.
Reaugh represented the Sooners in the women's high jump on Saturday afternoon. Reaugh cleared 5-7.25 (1.71m) to earn a tie for 14th place. Her finish also earned her the title of second-team All-American, becoming OU's first indoor All-American in the women's high jump since 1995.
The meet wraps up indoor season for the Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams. The squads now transition straight to outdoor season, which begins Saturday, March 16, at the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas.
