Simulask, Reaugh Set for NCAA Indoors

Simulask, Reaugh Set for NCAA Indoors

March 07, 2019 | Track and Field

NORMAN - Two Sooners are set to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala., this weekend. The two-day competition begins Friday and is hosted by UAB at Birmingham CrossPlex.

Freshman Kristo Simulask and sophomore Falyn Reaugh will represent the Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams. Simulask is set to compete in the men's heptathlon, beginning at noon on Friday and concluding on Saturday afternoon. Reaugh will compete in the women's high jump, slated for 4 p.m. CT on Saturday. The pair each qualified for the championship with marks in the top 16 nationally for their respective events.

Simulask, a native of Haapsalu, Estonia, had a strong freshman indoor season, competing in the heptathlon at two meets. He earned second place at the Texas Tech Classic with a total of 5,506 points on Jan. 24-26, and he improved his collegiate-best score to 5,660 points at the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23, for another second-place finish. Simulask's Big 12 mark puts him in a tie for 11th in the nation heading into NCAA Indoors. He sits at second all-time on OU's top-10 performance list, just 11 points shy of the school record.

"At the start of the season my goal was to make the top six, and that's still my goal," Simulask said. "With a PR, I could probably break the school record, but that's not as big of a goal as finishing in the top six."

From Dallas, Reaugh makes her first career NCAA Championship appearance after earning a qualifying spot for NCAA Regionals during the 2018 outdoor season. In the first meet of the 2019 indoor season, the Corky Classic, Reaugh cleared a personal-best 6-0.75 (1.85m). Although she battled injury most of the regular season, she still sits at third place nationally with that mark heading into the championship meet. Reaugh sits at third on OU's all-time top-10 high jump performance list.

"I'm really excited to go to my first indoor NCAAs," Reaugh said. "I might never get this opportunity again. You don't know what might happen, so I want to give it my all this time."

A top-eight finish will earn the athletes first-team All-America honors, while 9th- through 16th-place of the NCAA qualifiers will be named second-team All-Americans.

Live results will be available through Flash Results.  ESPN3 will be broadcasting the events Friday and Saturday, with coverage to start at 6:30 p.m. (all times central) and 5 p.m., respectively.
