NORMAN – Oleksandra Korashvili of the Oklahoma women's tennis team has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Korashvili notched her second win over a top-25 opponent Sunday when she routed then-No. 17 Silvia Ambrosio of Purdue, 6-2, 6-2 in her debut at the No. 1 line.

The junior and her partner Kianah Motosono kept the Sooners alive in the doubles point against Purdue, defeating Shimizu and Dovnik 6-4 after OU suffered a loss at the top spot. Korashvili and Motosono remain undefeated (8-0) in doubles as a pair.

Against UMKC, Korashvili again was the first Sooner off the courts with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Michela Xibilia to push OU's lead to 2-0 in the match.

Korashvili checked in to the latest ITA singles rankings at No. 40 nationally, up 20 spots from her previous ranking.

This is the second Big 12 Player of the Week honor for Korashvili, who garnered the award on Jan. 29, and the third for OU after Camila Romero received conference recognition on Feb. 12.

Korashvili and the No. 34 Sooners are home to host No. 47 Tulsa Friday at 3 p.m. CT and No. 39 Gonzaga Sunday at noon.

Sunday's match will be OU's Hispanic Heritage contest and free food from Chuy's will be provided while supplies last.
