Singles Comeback Comes Up Short

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 20 Oklahoma men's tennis team suffered its first loss in six matches at the hands of No. 9 Texas A&M Tuesday, falling to the Aggies 4-3.

OU (12-4) picked up three singles wins in the contest, but the Sooners came up just short of Texas A&M.

In doubles, Alex Bakshi and Ferran Calvo tallied a 6-4 victory over Hady Habib and Kevin Lam on court two.

Spencer Papa and Jake Van Emburgh fell to No. 23 Carlos Aguilar and Barnaby Smith 6-1 at the No. 1 line. On court three, Stefano Tsorotiotis and Jochen Bertsch were defeated by Valentin Vacherot and Jack Pulliam 6-4 and Texas A&M took the doubles point.

In singles, No. 88 Van Emburgh picked up a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 32 Vacherot at the two spot. The victory was good for Van Emburgh's sixth straight this season and first over a ranked opponent.

Beiler also notched his sixth straight win. The freshman gave up just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Vedri on court six to give OU a 2-1 lead in the match.

Bertsch held on for a three-set win over Noash Schechter on court five. Bertsch crusied through the first set 6-3 but Schechter took set two 6-4. In the third, Bertsch worked his way back from a 3-0 deficit by winning six straight games to take the frame 6-3.

No. 54 Papa fell to No. 77 Aguilar 7-5, 6-3 at the top spot. On court two, No. 49 Bakshi was defeated by No. 62 Habib after three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Calvo fell to No. 78 Smith 6-3, 6-1 on court four.

The Sooners travel to No. 11 North Carolina Friday for a 3 p.m. clash with the Tarheels. OU is home to host USF Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final nonconference match of the season.
