NORMAN – For the third time this season, Oleksandra Korashvili of the Oklahoma women's tennis team has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

No. 40 Korashvili clinched both of OU's wins over ranked opponents over the weekend by beating ranked opponents at the No. 1 line.

Korashvili was the difference in the Sooners' 4-3 win against in-state rival Tulsa with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over No. 76 Martina Okalova at the top spot.

Against Gonzaga, Korashvili took down No. 7 Sophie Whittle in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to clinch OU's 4-1 win against No. 39 Gonzaga. The victory was Korashvili's third over a top-25 opponent this season after she had previously defeated the No. 15 and No. 17 players.

This is the second consecutive Big 12 Player of the Week for Korashvili, who has compiled a 9-3 record this season and remains undefeated (4-0) at No. 1 singles.

The award is the fourth for OU after Camila Romero received conference recognition on Feb. 12. With four conference weekly awards, OU has more than any other Big 12 team.

Korashvili and the No. 30 Sooners open league play Friday with No. 33 Kansas State at 5 p.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center. OU hosts No. 10 Kansas Sunday at noon CT.
