NORMAN – The participants in the upcoming NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships were announced late Tuesday. Two OU student-athletes were accepted to the championships: Falyn Reaugh in the women's high jump and Kristo Simulask in the men's heptathlon. The two Sooners ranked among the top 16 in the country to earn a ticket to Birmingham, Ala. The meet, hosted by UAB at Birmingham CrossPlex, opens at noon Friday, March 8, and wraps up on Saturday, March 9.
Reaugh, a sophomore, posted her qualifying mark, an indoor PR, at the Corky Classic on Jan. 12 in Lubbock, Texas. She cleared 6-0.75 (1.85m) in the season's first meet. Since then, the Dallas native has taken sixth place at both the Tyson Invitational and Big 12 Indoor Championships, tallying marks of 5-9.75 (1.77m) and 5-7.75 (1.72m), respectively. Reaugh will make her first NCAA Championships appearance after being an NCAA West Regional Qualifier during the 2018 outdoor season. Reaugh's qualifying mark puts her in a tie for third nationally in the women's high jump heading into NCAA Indoors.
Simulask, of Haapsalu, Estonia, heads to NCAA Indoors after competing in two heptathlons this indoor season. A redshirt freshman, Simulask posted a total of 5,506 at the Texas Tech Classic in late January, finishing in the top three in six of the seven events and second place overall. The score put him at third on OU's all-time top-10 heptathlon performance list. He moved to second on that list following the Big 12 Championships, where he claimed the best marks in the pole vault, high jump and long jump on his way to collecting 5,660 points. The mark is tied for the 11th best in the nation on the season.
Six Sooners competed at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas. The Sooners collected three first-team All-America honors courtesy seniors Ama Pipi and Jess Woodard and freshman Vernon Turner.
