Sooners Reveal Spring Schedule

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma Head Women's Tennis CoachĀ Audra CohenĀ and Vice President and Director of AthleticsĀ Joe CastiglioneĀ announced the 2020 OU women's tennis schedule Thursday.

OU's challenging schedule includes nine matchups with teams that made the 2019-20 NCAA tournament as well as seven teams that finished in the ITA's top 30. The Sooners will play 10 contests at home.

"We have a tough schedule with a lot of opportunities against top-25 teams," said Cohen. "We grew a lot as a program this fall and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead."

The Sooners will open the season at the Miami Invite, hosted by the University of Miami Jan. 18-20. OU then heads to Raleigh, N.C. for its third straight ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Sooners will face host NC State while Florida and Rice square off on the other side of the bracket on Jan. 25. The winners of those matches will play each other Jan. 26 with a trip to the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships (held Feb. 7-10 in Champaign, Ill.) on the line.

The Sooners will host Oral Roberts and UMKC in a doubleheader on Feb. 1 before heading to Tempe, Ariz., for a meeting with the Sun Devils Feb. 8. OU comes home to host Pepperdine Feb. 15 then hits the road for three matches at Teas A&M (Feb. 22), Purdue (Feb. 29) and Illinois (March 1). Ā 

OU returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center to open Big 12 play with TCU (March 6) and Texas Tech (March 8). The Sooners will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff following the Texas Tech match on March 8.

The Sooners head to the Sunflower State to face Kansas (March 13) and Kansas State (March 15), then take a trip to Tulsa on March 18. The squad is home for Iowa State (March 20) and Old Dominion (March 22) before traveling south to Baylor (March 27) and Texas (March 29).

OU will play two more non-conference matches as it hosts Wichita State on April 1, then meets UCF at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., April 5. Ā The Sooners close out the regular season with two Big 12 matches at home as they host Oklahoma State on April 10, followed by West Virginia April 12.

The 2020 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championships will be held at Oklahoma State April 16-19.

NCAA Regionals are set for May 1-3, with the winners advancing to Super Regionals May 9-10. Regionals and Super Regionals will take place at campus sites. Team Championships will be held May 14-20 in Stillwater, Okla., with singles and doubles competitions running May 20-23.Ā 

The Sooners are coming off a 2019 season that saw them their first NCAA tournament bid in five seasons. OU returns seven players from that squad including Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Oleksandra Korashvili; All-Big 12 honorees Camila Romero and Martina Capurro; Jasmine Asghar, Ivana Corley, Skyler Miller and Kianah Motosono. Cohen and the Sooners added Marcelina Podlinska in August and Carmen Corley will join the roster in January.
