NORMAN — Oklahoma men's tennis sophomore
Mason Beiler will compete in the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Newport Beach, Calif.
Beiler was an at-large selection for the 64-player singles draw, which features teams from all five divisions. The New Port Richey, Fla., product is one of eight Big 12 selections who will play in the event.
"Mason has worked extremely diligent and hard at his craft over the last year," said head coach
Nick Crowell. "His work ethic and desire are extremely high and he deserves to play in the Fall Championships among the nation's best players."
Beiler's successful fall season saw him an 8-3 mark with a consolation finals appearance at the Battle in the Bay and a run to the ITA Central Region Championships quarterfinals. Beiler, who was unranked, tallied three wins over three ranked opponents in No. 86 Luc Fomba (TCU), No. 32 Gui Osorio (San Diego) and No. 39 Parker Wynn (Texas Tech).
"He picked up some really big wins this fall over some very highly-ranked guys," said Crowell. "This is just another great opportunity for the Sooners to continue to grow this fall and I am excited for Mason."
2019 marks the third straight season a Sooner will compete at the ITA National Fall Championships. Junior
Jake Van Emburgh competed in the 2018 tournament, while former Sooner
Ferran Calvo made an appearance in 2017.
Live stats will be available for the tournament. Singles finals will be aired on ESPN3 on Sunday, Nov. 10.
