NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to the Sooner State this weekend for the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship, hosted by the University of Tulsa.
OU will send seven players to the tournament: Jochen Bertsch, Mark Mandlik Max Stewart and Matt Rodriguez are set for the tournament's pre-qualifying draw, beginning Saturday. Sophomore Mason Beiler will play in the qualifying draw and ITA No. 47 Jake Van Emburgh has earned a spot in the main draw.
Additionally, two OU duos will play in the doubles qualifying draw. Beiler and Stewart will team up, as will No. 35 Van Emburgh and Stefano Tsorotiotis.
The ITA All-American will mark the first tournament for Van Emburgh and Tsorotiotis and the second for the other five Sooners.
In his last competition, Beiler took fifth at the Battle in the Bay by taking out three ranked opponents.
Pre-qualifying runs from Oct. 5-6 while the qualifying draw will be played Oct. 7-8. Main draw action is set for Oct. 9-12. All matches will be played at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa. The men's singles final will air live on ESPNU beginning at 8 p.m. (CT).
The men's and women's singles quarterfinalists, consolation finalists, plus the doubles semifinalists and consolation finalists for each gender will earn automatic entry into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships slated for Nov. 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.
