Sooners Advance at Regionals

NORMAN – Several Sooners picked up singles wins Friday to advance to the round of 32, while Jochen Bertsch and Matt Rodriguez punched their tickets to the doubles quarterfinals.
Bertsch and Rodriguez opened the day with a dominant, 8-2 win over Cody Pearson and Juan Pablo Cenoz (Tulsa). Rodriguez then added a 6-4, 6-2 win over Joe Tyler (UI) to stay perfect on the day. Bertsch gave up just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rafael Serra (Wichita State) in his first match of the tournament.
Mason Beiler also advanced, defeating Nebraska-Omaha's Nathan Reekie 6-3, 6-2. In his tournament opener, Stefano Tsorotiotis topped Jose Diez (Creighton) 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Jake Van Emburgh held on to win a wild first set against Abdoul Ouattara (UNO),7-6 (11), then dominated set two 6-2.
Freshman Mark Mandlik took care of business, dispatching Barnabas Koncz (ORU) 6-1,6-2.
