Sooners in Singles, Doubles Semis

NORMAN – Oklahoma will be represented in both the singles and finals semifinals after Sunday wins at the ITA Central Region Championships. OU earned two spots in the doubles semifinals as duos Oleksandra Korashvili and Jasmine Asghar and Martina Capurro and Camila Romero dominated the day, while Capurro and Korashvili held steady to secure spots in the singles semifinals.
Tomorrow's doubles and singles semifinals will be all-Bedlam matchups as Korashvili and Asghar take on OSU's Lisa-Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto; Romero and Capurro get Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Dariya Detkovskay; and in singles Capurro faces Rioux and Korashvili takes on Detkovsaya.
In the doubles quarterfinals, Korashvili and Asghar won a Bedlam battle with Oklahoma State's No. 27 Catherine Gulihur and Alana Wolfberg, 8-3. Capurro and Romero made quick work of Arkansas' Martina Zerulo and Jackie Carr, winning 8-4.
In singles action, No. 82 Capurro punched her ticket to the semifinals with wins over two ranked opponents. Capurro battled out a three-set win over No. 106 Maria Linares (Kansas State) in the round of 16. After dropping the first set 6-2, Capurro flipped the script in set two to win it 6-2 and force a third frame. Linares took Capurro to a tiebreaker, but the Sooner came out on top 7-6 (1).
Capurro took out No. 67 Thamchaiwat (OSU) in the quarterfinals, 7-6 (1), 6-3. The sophomores awaits Oklahoma State's Rioux in the semifinals.
No. 21 Korashvili topped K-State's Rosanna Maffei 7-5, 6-3 in the round of 16, then held on for a three-set victory over Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva (WSU), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Camila Romero and Marcelina Podlinska saw their singles runs come to an end in the round of 16. Romero was defeated by No. 111 Elise Van Huevelen Treadwell (Iowa), 6-0, 6-0, and Podlinska fell to Oklahoma State's No. 43 Rioux, 6-4, 6-1.
