Four Sooners Advance at ITA Regionals

NORMAN – Four Sooners advanced to the round of 32 and all three of OU's doubles teams moved on after the first day of main draw action at the ITA Central Region Championships.
"I'm happy with our growth overall this fall," said head coach Audra Cohen. We're getting more competitive with each tournament that we play. We have some great opportunities heading in to tomorrow."
"It's nice to host this kind of tournament and have the opportunity to play on our home courts."
In singles action, Romero took out Nebraska's Chloe Kuckelman 6-4, 6-3 after receiving a first-round bye. The junior meets Jackie Carr (Arkansas) tomorrow.
No. 1-overall seed Korashvili also got a bye, then made quick work of Missouri State's Alye Darter, 6-2, 6-2. Korashvili is slated to face Kansas' Roxana Manu tomorrow in the round of 32.
After receiving a bye in the round of 128, Capurro dispatched Maja Gledic of Central Arkansas 6-0, 6-1. The junior is set for a meeting with Luniuska Delgado (Kansas) in the round of 32.
Newcomer Marcelina Podlinska rolled past Liza Petuskhova (Drake), 6-0, 6-2 after a first-round bye. Podlinska will take on Kelly Keller (Arkansas) tomorrow.
Elsewhere in singles, qualifier Skyler Miller defeated Bozana Lojpur (Bradley), 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 128 before falling to Oklahoma State's Dariya Detkovskaya, 6-3, 6-3. Jasmine Asghar topped Mariluz Rojo (SLU) 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round, but fell to Arkansas' Lauren Alter in a hard-fought battle, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4.
OU went three-for-three in doubles with wins in the round of 64. Romero and Capurro gave up just one game en route to an 8-1 rout of Lucia Santa Ana and Bella Lambert. Asghar and Korashvili made quick work of Wichita State's Esther Tebault and Sarvinoz Sandhujaeva 8-3, and Motosono and Miller routed Ivana Babic and Oleksandra Nahurska (ORU) 8-1.
Play begins at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow with the doubles round of 32, followed by the doubles round of 16. Singles round of 32 matches will be played after doubles. More information can be found at the tournament hub.
