NORMAN – Oleksandra Korashvili of the Oklahoma women's tennis team has been named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
As the Sooners pushed No. 2 Vanderbilt to the edge in Saturday's championship match, unranked Korashvili took down the No. 15 player in the nation at the No. 2 line, defeating Christina Rosca 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Korashvili and partner Kianah Motosono clinched both doubles points for OU over the weekend. Against Winthrop, Korashvili and Motosono got a dominant 6-3 victory over Tayla Van Eck and Ellie Burns on court three. The duo held on to beat Vanderbilit's Emma Kurtz and Georgia Drummy 7-6 (5) and seal the opening point for OU against the Commodores.
This is the first career honor for Korashvili, and OU's first Big 12 Player of the Week nod since Whitney Ritchie in 2014.
Korashvili and the Sooners return to action Sunday at Arkansas. First serve is set for 10 a.m. CT.
