OU Tallies 10 Wins at Fountain Valley, Princeton

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team completed its first split weekend of competition tallying 10 total wins at the Ivy Plus Invite and Fountain Valley Futures.

Ivy Plus Invite

At the Ivy Plus Invite, junior Jochen Bertsch paced the Sooners with a 2-1 singles record. The junior held strong to tally wins over LSU's Joseph Thomas [6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3)] and conference rival Chih Chi Huang of Texas, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (10)

Max Stewart went 1-2 in singles, recording a win over Timothy Wang (Columbia), 6-2, 7-5.

Freshman Matt Rodriguez went 1-2 on the weekend. Rodriguez picked up his first victory as a Sooner in his first-ever match, defeating Charles Tan (Brown), 6-3, 7-6 (5).

In doubles, Stewart and Bertsch notched a pair of wins to go 2-1, with an 8-6 victory over Tan and Ben Collier (Brown), 8-6, and a 6-1 rout of Princeton's Karl Poling and Payton Holden. The duo fell to Osgar O'Hoisin and Jared Pratt of Wisconsin, 8-6.

Fountain Valley Futures

At the Fountain Valley Futures, freshman Mason Beiler made a run to the final round of qualifying. After receiving a first-round bye, Beiler defeated American Arnav Mohanty, 6-4, 6-3, in the second round before taking down Italian Carnevale-Mino, 6-1, 6-3, to set up a final match with Siem Woldeab (USA). In the final, Beiler fell to Woldeab, 6-4, 6-0.

Senior Ferran Calvo advanced to the third round of the qualifying draw by virtue of a shutout of Prince Zi Wang (Canada), 6-0, 6-0, and a three-set victory over Great Britain's Angus Bradshaw, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3).

The Sooners' Alex Bakshi is set for the Fountain Valley Futures main draw, beginning Tuesday.

The Sooners will return to action next weekend at the ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa.
