NORMAN – For the third time in her career, Lily Miyazaki has been named to the All-Big 12 Singles First Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Miyazaki compiled a 15-6 overall record while going 4-2 in Big 12 Conference action, all from the No. 1 line. The senior is ranked No. 39 in the latest ITA singles release and won 13 of her matches in straight sets. Miyazaki also owns a 3-2 mark against ranked opponents, including an upset over then-No. 17 Gabriela Talaba of Texas Tech.
"I am so happy for Lily. She certainly deserves this recognition - she's on eof the hardest workers in college tennis. Throughout her four years, she has maintained a strong commitment to improving as a person and player," said head coach Audra Cohen. "Her opennness to change and her willngness to focus on the big picture have been extraordinary. I am very thankful for the legacy she leaves behind for the program."
Miyazaki has played at No. 1 singles for the entirety of her career at OU, racking up a record of 96-34, which places her tied for third all-time among OU's career singles leaders.
Up next for the senior is the NCAA 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, where Miyazaki will make her second consecutive appearance in the 64-player singles draw, which will take place May 23-28 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C., following the team tournament that runs from May 17-22.
Times and draws for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
