NORMAN – The No. 17 Oklahoma men's tennis team clashes with Bedlam foe and No. 14 Oklahoma State Saturday in Stillwater, Okla., in the final regular season matchup of 2018.
The No. 17 Sooners come into Saturday's contest at 17-4 overall with a 2-2 mark in Big 12 play. In its last matches, OU fell to No. 9 TCU, 4-2, and No. 19 Texas, 4-0, on the road.
Alex Bakshi leads the Sooners in singles action with a record of 12-2 at the No. 1 line. Bakshi is riding a five-match winning streak and appeared at No. 35 in the latest ITA release, his highest ranking of the season.
Junior Ferran Calvo is No. 59 nationally with an 8-5 mark, playing primarily at the No. 4 spot. Jake Van Emburgh has the most singles wins of any Sooner with a record of 13-2 between courts three and four. Van Emburgh was tabbed No. 117 in this week's ITA rankings, and owns a five-match winning streak in singles.
In doubles, the Sooners' lineup features two ranked pairings: Bakshi and Van Emburgh at No. 57 at 3-2 on court one, and Calvo and Adrian Oetzbach are No. 71 with a 5-4 record on court two.
The No. 19 Cowboys enter the matchup with an overall record of 20-6 and a 2-2 slate in league action. Oklahoma State has dropped just one match at home, good for a 15-1 record in Stillwater.
In its last weekend of competition, Oklahoma State suffered back-to-back losses at No. 19 Texas, 4-0, and No. 9 TCU, 4-0.
In singles, Julian Cash leads Oklahoma State from the No.1 spot in the lineup, where he has compiled a 10-4 record. Cash was tabbed No. 45 in the latest ITA release. Artur Dubinski also represents the Cowboys in the singles rankings, checking in at No. 92 with a 16-5 mark, playing primarily at the No. 2 line.
Mathieu Scaglia owns the most singles wins with a 12-6 mark on courts two, three and four.
In doubles, Cash and Luke Hammond are 12-4 on court one, good for a ranking of 25 nationally.
In the 2017 meeting, No. 17 Oklahoma upset the No. 5 Cowboys, 4-0, in Norman to cap off the regular season.
Oklahoma State owns the all-time series, 41-38. The Sooners have won the last 10 matchups, a streak dating back to 2009.
