Sooners Fall at No. 8 Texas

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The No. 49 Oklahoma women's tennis team suffered its first conference loss Friday at No. 8 Texas, falling to the Longhorns, 4-0.

With the loss, Oklahoma moves to 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in Big 12 play. Texas improves to 11-4 overall with a 3-0 mark in conference matches.

The Sooners struck first in doubles, but Texas took the opening point.

Lily Miyazaki and Malene Stripp handled Marta Perez-Mur and Bianca Turati, 6-2, in the two spot.

On court three, Simran Sethi and Camila Romero were defeated by Katie Poluta and Anna Turati, 6-2, leaving the point to be decided by court one.

Asghar and Brigante battled, but fell to No. 44 Petra Granic and Bojana Markovic, 6-4, as Texas took the opening point.

In singles play, Brigante was defeated by No. 77 Granic, 6-0, 6-0, in the three spot. The loss ended the senior's seven-match winning streak.

Sethi fell to Markovic, 6-0, 6-4, from the No. 4 line. Asghar was defeated by No. 33 Anna Turati after a battle, 6-4, 6-3, to seal the match for Texas.

When play was halted, Miyazaki was giving No. 1 Bianca Turati all she could handle in the top spot, tied at 4 in the second frame. Turati took set one, 6-4, after a battle by Miyazaki.

At No. 5, Romero trailed Perez-Mur, 4-0, in the third frame. The Longhorn took the first set, 6-3, before Romero turned the tables in the second frame to win it, 6-0, and force a deciding set.

Stripp was tied with Texas' Poluta at 4 in the second set. Poluta took set one, 6-4.

The Sooners are back in action Sunday, when they travel to Waco to take on No. 28 Baylor at 3 p.m.
