NORMAN – The No. 16 Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to Norman to host a pair of matches, beginning with UMKC on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, and followed by Fresno State on Monday at 3 p.m. CT.
No. 16 Oklahoma enters the contests at 12-2 on the season. In its last match, OU suffered its second loss of the season at then-No. 3 UCLA, falling 5-2.
The Sooners landed three players in the latest ITA singles rankings. Ferran Calvo is No. 62 nationally with a 5-4 overall record. Alex Bakshi leads OU at the one spot with a record of 7-2, and is No. 73. Freshman Jake Van Emburgh is No. 106 with an 8-2 mark.
Sophomore Jochen Bertsch remains undefeated at the No. 5 spot in singles with a 9-0 mark. Max Stewart has compiled an 8-2 record on courts four, five and six, with seven of his eight victories coming in straight sets.
In doubles, Calvo and Adrian Oetzbach entered the ITA rankings this week at No. 68. The pair is 2-1 on the season and clinched the doubles point for Oklahoma against UCLA.
The Roos come into Saturday's contest at 5-7 on the year. UMKC has recorded sweeps in its last two contests: the Roos made quick work of Northwest Missouri State to win, 7-0, at home, then took down Omaha, 6-0, on the road.
Airam Castellano leads UMKC from the No. 1 line with a 5-5 mark. Alex Pozo has the most wins of any UMKC player with a 7-4 record on court two, and has won his last three consecutive matches.
In doubles, Castellano and Pozo are 6-3 in the top spot and are riding at three-match winning streak. The pair checked in at No. 76 in the latest ITA release.
The last meeting between the Sooners and UMKC was in 2012, when OU downed the Roos, 4-0, in Norman.
Fresno State comes to Norman with a 10-8 overall mark. In their last match, the Bulldogs downed San Francisco, 6-1, at home.
Cem Erturk the Bulldogs in singles wins with a team-best record of 12-4 at the No. 4 spot. Henrique Osorio has a 9-1 record from the No. 6 line.
In doubles play, Xander Veys and Cagatay Soke are 5-4 in the top spot.
The Bulldogs will travel to Air Force to open Mountain West Conference play Friday before arriving in Norman.
The last time the Sooners clashed with Fresno State was in 2007. OU won the match, 5-2, in Fresno.
The Sooners will wear green shoelaces and ribbons as part of Athletics Student Life's mental health awareness initiative during the month of March.
First serve against UMKC is set for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday. The match with Fresno State will begin at 3 p.m. CT on Monday.
