Freshman Jake Van Emburgh joined the Sooners in August after a highly decorated junior career. A product of Florida's IMG Academy, Van Emburgh had a career-high juniors singles ranking of No. 190 in the world and No. 7 ranking according to tennisrecruiting.net. The Belleair Beach, Fla., native was the 2016 Easter Bowl Classic doubles champion and garnered a trip to the semifinals in singles at the 2015 Prince George's County International Hard Court Junior Championships.
Van Emburgh got off to a hot start at OU, compiling a 9-3 fall record that began with a 7-0 run. In just his second tournament as a Sooner, Van Emburgh won the Houndstooth Draw at the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall. He also advanced to the final in the qualifying draw at the ITA All-American.
Now in spring duals, Van Emburgh has continued his winning ways. The freshman has compiled a 4-1 record in singles action, with every victory coming in straight sets. Van Emburgh remains undefeated in doubles with Ferran Calvo with a 5-0 record from the No. 1 and 2 lines, and has become an asset for the Sooners.
