CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two Sooners went undefeated in singles action and one doubles team maintained a perfect record at the Kitty Harrison Invitational to wrap up the fall season.
Freshmen Ivana Corley and Kianah Motosono went 3-0 in singles on the weekend, while Martina Capurro and Camila Romero pushed their winning streak to five matches with a 2-0 record at the tournament.
Corley took down Virginia's Hunter Bleser, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (4), as well as Pierina Imparato of Charlotte, 6-1, 7-5. The freshman's final victory of the tournament came as a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (7) win over Katsiaryna Yemalanyanka (Maryland). Corley closes out her fall campaign at 7-2 overall.
Motosono racked up three straight-sets victories over Virginia's Camille Favero (6-2, 6-1), Tai Martin of Charlotte, (6-1, 6-1) and Delaware's Caragh Courtney (6-0, 6-2). With her wins at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, the Miami, Fla., native finishes the fall with an 8-3 singles record.
In doubles, Capurro and Romero had no trouble with North Carolina's Chloe Oullet-Pizer and Anna Harmon, defeating the Tarheels, 6-3. The duo followed that victory up with a 6-2 rout of Daniela Voloh and Jona Roka of James Madison.
Capurro and Romero wrap up the fall slate at 10-2 overall, with their run including a title at the Marliss Gruver Memorial Tournament and a semifinal finish at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
Romero went 2-1 in singles, defeating North Carolina's Sophia Patel, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (7), and Sarah Hall of Delaware, 6-3, 6-0. The sophomore's only loss came to Virginia's Amber O'Dell, 6-0, 6-4.Romero finishes the fall at 7-3 overall.
Elsewhere in singles, newcomer Alli Hodges also went 2-1. The senior transfer took down Harmon of UNC, 6-3, 6-2, then gave up just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Delaware's Emily Gotkiewicz. Hodges completes the fall at 6-4 in singles action.
Corley and Asghar capped their successful fall campaign with a 2-1 record at the tournament, tallying victories over Sanford and Patel of UNC, 6-4, and Charlotte's Martin and Cowper, 8-4. The duo finishes the season at 12-4 to lead the Sooners in doubles wins.
The Sooners return to action in January for dual play. A schedule will be released at a later date.
