NORMAN – Oklahoma men's tennis sophomore Adrian Oetzbach advanced to the main draw at the Fountain View Futures tournament in Fountain Valley, Calif.
Oetzbach won four straight matches to earn one of the eight qualifying spots in the main draw at the event. The sophomore defeated Francisco Dias, 6-3, 6-3, on Monday to secure his bid. Oetzbach will face Alex Blumenberg of Brazil in the first round on Wednesday.
The sophomore opened play on Friday with 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Philip Jorth before topping Antonio Ruiz-Rosales 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 on Saturday. Oetzbach picked up his third consecutive win of the weekend on Sunday, taking down Hironori Koyanagi, 7-5, 6-2.
Alex Bakshi also put together a strong perforamce at the tournament, falling just one win shy of picking up a qualifying spot in the main draw. Bakshi picked up three consecutive straight-set wins during the weekend, before falling to Alberto Lim, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 on Monday.
The sophomore is 5-1 through his two events as a Sooner this fall after winning the Napa Valley Tennis Classic to begin the year.
