NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team is slated for another busy weekend with players representing the Sooners at three tournaments, all beginning Friday.
Four Sooners will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall tournament: Jochen Bertsch and Ferran Calvo will compete in the Crimson singles draw and James Davis and Jake van Emburgh slated for the Houndstooth draw.
In doubles action, Bertsch and van Emburgh will pair up in the Crimson flight and Calvo and Davis will play in the Houndstooth bracket. The tournament field includes players from Florida State, Illinois, Memphis, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Rice, Tulane and Alabama.
Alex Bakshi and Adrian Oetzbach and are set to play at the Fountain Valley Future Pros tournament in Fountain Valley, Calif., where the trio will compete in the 128-player qualifying draw.
Fresh off his US Open doubles appearance, senior Spencer Papa will play in the Tiburon Challenger in Tiburon, Calif., a USTA pro-circuit tournament. Papa enters the season ranked No. 16 in the ITA singles poll.
During the opening weekend of tournament play, Calvo and Bakshi collected singles titles their first action as Sooners, with Bakshi bringing home the Napa Valley Tennis Classic title and Calvo claiming the Racquet Club Collegiate Classic final. Bakshi captured the event title by winning three straight matches in pool play, before winning three tiebreaker shootouts. Calvo was a perfect 5-0 last weekend during his first action as a Sooner.
